Statistics Class Analyzes Distracted Driving Simulation

Penn-Trafford High School students recently took part in a cross-curricular activity that combined mathematics and health education. Led by Statistics teacher Mrs. Jackie Bartko and PE/Health teacher Mrs. Patty Arzenti, the lesson utilized distracted driving goggles provided by the SADD club to simulate the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.

Students navigated a pedal bike course while wearing the goggles, which intermittently blacked out their vision to mimic real-life distractions. To further challenge their coordination, they also held a phone in one hand while maneuvering through the course.

During the activity, students recorded key data points, including the number of obstacles hit, completion time, and other performance metrics. This information will be analyzed in their Statistics class, reinforcing mathematical principles while also delivering a valuable lesson on the risks of distracted and impaired driving.
