Unified Bocce Team Competes on Home Court

Penn-Trafford’s Unified Bocce team had its first home match on Thursday, January 11 against Ligonier Valley. Spectators - including cheerleaders, band, teachers, students, and families - packed the bleachers to support the team.  Unified Bocce, in its inaugural season, is coached by teachers Miss Miranda Frye and Mrs. Colleen Jones.

This PIAA sport is an initiative of the Special Olympics to promote inclusion.  Penn-Trafford’s 8-member team consists of both regular education and special education students.

Although the Warriors fell to Ligonier Valley in their game, the players all had fun. As stated by 10th-grader Joshua Boss, “My favorite thing about bocce is meeting new people and having fun”. The Unified Bocce team looks forward to learning and growing as they continue throughout their first year of competition.
