In honor of school boards’ commitment to Pennsylvania students, schools and communities, January is once again designated School Director Recognition Month.
Pennsylvania public schools educate nearly 2 million students, including 3,900 in the Penn-Trafford School District. The nine members of Penn-Trafford’s school board are a key part of the district’s administrative team, making informed decisions that lead public schools and provide opportunities for every student to succeed.
Penn-Trafford acknowledged its directors at its January 8 board meeting.
As public servants, school directors devote, on average, 10 hours each month to board business. From voting on budgets to adopting policy to conducting comprehensive planning, school boards make key decisions that drive public education in a complex and changing environment.
Board service is unpaid, and school directors are often motivated to pursue the role out of a desire to benefit their community. The vast majority of school directors indicated their primary reason for serving is to give back or contribute to public education, or to improve educational outcomes for students. Nationally, about 41% of school directors serve the district they once attended as a student. In Penn-Trafford, that number is 67%. All nine of Penn-Trafford’s directors have/had children educated at PT.
The Penn-Trafford school directors are (Front) Mr. Jim Matarazzo, Mr. Nick Petrucci, Mr. Dallas Leonard, Mrs. Toni Ising, Mr. Rich Neimiec, (Back) Dr. Scott Koscho, Dr. Bryan Kline, Mr. Philip Kochasic, and Mr. Martin Stovar
