At Sunrise Estates Elementary School, the third-grade students created a patchwork quilt display in their Social Studies class to mark Black History Month.
Each of the students chose an influential person from black history, researched that person and selected a feature quote, and designed colorful quilt squares to present their person to the rest of the class. Then they pieced all the quilt squares together into a mural.
“The students really enjoyed sharing their research and learning about the historical figures,” commented Long Term Sub Hailey Trainer. “Once all the students shared their quilt squares, we ended up hearing about 21 amazing people!”
